Not Borderlands 3 announced

Sometimes rumors are true, sometimes not. The past couple of days we’ve seen countless rumors about a new Borderlands game, and this time they were true. Today Gearbox announced, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel.

As the name bluntly puts it, this new game is set between the first and second game in the series, and is named as such because Gearbox knows people don’t like to Google “Interquel”. Fair enough. Said to be released “this fall” on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel will show us how the not-so-ugly antagonist of Borderlands 2, Handsome Jack, became the… handsome man we’ve come to know and love.

The story is set on a moon – with all the low-gravity-fun that comes with a moon. Handsome Jack has crashed the Hyperion space station, and you can choose between four different classes, and take part of Handsome Jacks employee. You will work for the narcissistic, self-proclaimed true hero of the story, and help him… decrash the Hyperion space station.

You can choose between four different characters to play as, all known from previous games. First up is Athena, from the Secret Armory of General Knoxx DLC for Borderlands 1. Wilhelm will use his force, and the first time you met him was as a boss in Borderlands 2. Nisha is the third character. She was the sheriff of Lynchwood and Handsome Jacks most recent girlfriend. Maybe we’ll get to see how their relationship plays out in this game.  But maybe the one everyone will love and scream “take my money” at, is Claptrap. These are all very different, even more so than what we’ve seen in previous games I would believe, and it will be fun to see the how they’ll work. I want to play as Nisha, just so I can pretend I’m Handsome Jacks girlfriend.

The game is not developed by Gearbox themselfs, but in collaboration with 2K Australia. This was part of the rumormill earlier this week, and it may suggest that the main team of Gearbox is working on a the third game for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

You can have a look at the video below, where Randy Pitchford, president of Gearbox Software and Tony Lawrence, general manager of 2K Australia show the game in action and talk about the new things you can expect. Like, jumping high and freezing people with the new cryo ability.

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, with all joking aside is a fucking funny title, will be released later this year, and we look forward to see where it goes.
